Homefront Connecticut’s Homeowners Protection Initiative
In an effort to begin a meaningful debate about the importance of homeownership in re-invigorating Connecticut’s economy, Homefront Connecticut has introduced a broad-based plan that offers help to new home buyers and assistance to existing homeowners facing possible foreclosure due to lost income. The plan also includes provisions that seek to provide meaningful relief to all Connecticut property taxpayers.
The Homeowners Protection Initiative includes:
Promotion of Incentive Housing Zones.
Continuation of existing state foreclosure assistance programs.
Promote regionalization of municipal services if it results in stable or lower local property taxes or smart growth.
Support the efforts of HOMEConnecticut to develop initiatives to increase the stock of affordable housing in Connecticut.
Moratorium on new unfunded state mandates on cities and towns.
A roll back of existing state and local real estate conveyance taxes.
Allow for market sales of foreclosed properties to protect adjacent property values and capture greater value.
